🍪 ET #3 - Level Up Your Brand Exposure with GIFs!
Hey 👋🏻
I was chatting on WhatsApp with my partner Max this week and sent him a funny GIF of a dog pooping (he just loves to call me when I’m at the toilet for some reason). And it got me wondering, where do all these GIFs come from?
So, I did some digging and discovered that Giphy & Tenor serves 10 billion GIFs and stickers to 1 billion people every single day. Their API powers nearly every messaging app out there.
What’s even more interesting is that anyone can upload a GIF that 1 billion people have access to. This opens up a unique opportunity for brands to get major exposure.
All you need is a Giphy brand channel. Once you have it, any GIF you upload is publicly available on Giphy’s search engine. You can even put your logo, product, or URL.
For example, if you open Facebook Messenger and search for “Drink Latte” you'll see Starbucks coffee logo in the bottom right-hand corner. A reminder of where you can get your coffee.
While Google Search is often dominated by big companies with extensive backlinks, Giphy search offers a more level playing field. Take Bebetto, a baby stroller brand. They pulled 17.3M views from just 23 GIFs!
The trick? Create GIFs that match what your audience might search for and ensure there’s little competition.
Here’s what you need to do to start:
Create GIFs that match what your audience might search for.
Add your logo, product, or URL.
Upload and tag with relevant keywords.
Make 5 GIFs to apply for a free brand channel.
This last step is crucial. Only with a brand channel are your GIFs publicly searchable. And remember, the GIFs you upload must be original content.
For Tenor, I didn’t see any requirements; it looks like your GIFs are publicly searchable from the start.
Give this a try, and you might just find a new source for boosting your brand’s visibility!

See you next week,
